Jayanta
The age-old, proven methods for achieving victory over the body and mind, from both yogic and tantric sources.
A unique, well-rounded three-hour crash course in coping with life, comprising six outstanding modules: relaxation, mantra, chanting, kriya yoga, yoga nidra and anapana-sati.
Fully practical, a perfect complement to your Hatha Yoga practice.
Module 1—The Art of Relaxation
Too busy or too tense to relax. Putting relaxation as the first priority. Forcing and resisting vs. accepting the way things are. A want sets up a conflict which creates tension; tension inhibits the flow of life energy; the affected part of the body breaks down. Learning how to relax: connecting with each part of the body with the intention of allowing that part to relax. The energy flow in the body follows the attention. Focused vs. diffused awareness. Posture and breathing, the role they play. How relaxation helps you be healthy and prosperous, and enjoy life. Read an essay on relaxation >
Module 2—Protection through Mantra
How mantra protects you from obsessive thinking and brings peace to the conflicts and disturbances of the mind. Two special sounds that come spontaneously in natural yoga when victory is achieved. Combining the power of mantra with breath control. How to keep count of the repetitions. The secret of saying a mantra.
Module 3—The Joy of Chanting
If life feels dumb or dull, that’s because the body, heart and mind aren’t pure. Chanting purifies not only the body and the energy channels of the body, but the heart and the mind as well. How is chanting different from ordinary singing. Why chant in Sanskrit. How sound affects the brain and its structure. What you must know in order to make a chant powerful. How chanting builds up energy and emotion; frees and transforms the energy in the body, feelings and mind; and brings concentration and tranquility.
Module 4—The Secret Yoga
Yoga for the modern times. Tantric roots and methodology: bypassing the rules (and members) of orthodox yoga, turning obstacles into the path. The main kriya elements: asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha, drishti, mantra, and nyasa; that is, posture, breath control, seal, lock, gaze, sacred sound, and placement or rotation of consciousness. The correct sequence of “actions.” How kriya yoga: (a) is faster in producing results than common yogas; (b) includes and integrates all the members and forms of yoga. Enjoying the benefits of other yogas without having to actually do them all. The awakening, channeling and transmutation of life energy. Healing and harmonizing the body, feelings and mind.
Module 5—Yogic Sleep
Position of the body and guidelines for practice. Bodily relaxation, sense awareness (such as of the shape of the body and the external sounds), and the spontaneous withdrawal of attention from the sense organs. Autosuggestion: the 3 Ps. Rotation of awareness through different body parts. Breath awareness and breath counting. Manufacturing bodily sensations and feelings. Mental training, for example, movement of consciousness along various energy channels, visualization, mental posture performance, psychic breathing, time travel, etc. Check out our yoga nidra class >
Module 6—Mindfulness of Breathing Meditation
Royal, or highest, yoga. The last three steps of yoga. Concentration, meditation and union; what they are, and how to achieve them. The right posture for meditation. Overcoming obstacles and distractions. How calmness, insight and powers are achieved through the process of concentration. How it is that mindfulness of breathing holds the highest place among both the Hindu and Buddhist methods of meditation. Taming a wild calf. Counting vs. connecting. The gap between two breaths.
