The best mantra

Did you know...
...that it is better, for mantra repetition, to use a one-syllable word, such as RAM or AUM, rather than something long like a gayatri (Skt. gāyatrī, deriv. of gāyatra ‘song,’ ‘hymn’)? With a lengthy mantra, the mind remains occupied with words, and as the words change, the content of the mind changes too. It is still better to use a meaningless sound rather than a word, for example HOO, because the meaning feeds the mind and is a distraction, a disturbance, too.
