Seeing only one side of it at a time

Did you know...
...that the mind is incapable of knowing what anything is? When we look at an object, we can only see one side of it at a time; the viewing-angle, or our standpoint, determining what we see, or how things look like. In exactly the same way, when we think about anything, we can only think about it in one context at a time, the context determining what we think. Since it’s impossible to look at something from all the possible angles or think about it in more than one context at the same time, and since the mind is incapable of grasping that it cannot know, the mind resorts to a trick: it decides, rather haphazardly, which aspect of a thing is appropriate or “true,” or creates a model, or a composite picture, based on, or assembled of, different views, and then confuses what’s merely a symbol with the thing the symbol stands for. The map becomes the territory and then we insist that reality fits our models, which it never does.
