You cannot continuously remember anything

Did you know...
...that you cannot continuously remember anything? Sooner or later you will forget. Try watching your breathing or listening to the sounds around you for a few minutes. Before you know it, a thought will come into your mind and distract your attention. You’ll wander off, only to remember seconds or even minutes later. Ordinarily, we are not aware for more than a few seconds uninterruptedly, five or six if we are very, very alert. Most of us miss every second. However, if you could manage to be aware of, let’s say, your breath for about half an hour, you would achieve samadhi or full enlightenment. Only, when trying to be aware, half an hour seems like a millennium.
